Congress mouthpiece calls Sonia’s father a `fascist’, trashes Nehru
So far no action has been taken by the Congress. Sanjay Nirupam was quoted as saying, “I agree and accept there are certain words which are objectionable in it, we are going to take action against those who are responsible”. Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam, who is editor of the publication, clarified that the articles are a mistake, and their being published would be looked into.
On the occasion of the 131st Congress foundation day, an article published by the party’s Mumbai unit, “Congress Darshan”, has now disturbed many, for blaming Jawaharlal Nehru for the state of affairs in Kashmir, China and Tibet. Another piece in the journal talks about Sonia joining the Congress 62 days before she was elected its president in 1997.
The article clearly states that Nehru should have listened to freedom fighter and former home minister, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s views on global affairs.
“She also made an unsuccessful attempt to form a government”, the article says.
A letter was also cited in the article where Patel reportedly wrote in 1950 cautioning Nehru against China’s policy towards Tibet. Patel opposed Nehru’s move of taking the Kashmir issue to the UNO, “Nehru did not agree with Patel’s views on Nepal.” instances like these were documented in the article, DNA reported.
Congress also tried to cap the controversy with senior party leader Salman Khurshid clarifiing on the goof up.
Meanwhile, the Nationalist Congress Party today said the Congress mouthpiece “Congress Darshan” should not rake up decade old issues against former prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru and party president Sonia Gandhi.
The Mumbai Regional Congress Committee (MRCC) seems to have forgotten that it was Prime Minister Narendra Modi who started the initiative to reinvent Patel as a national icon to overshadow other Congress leaders, including the late Indira Gandhi, whose death anniversary had been observed by the party on the same day since 1985.
