Congress protest enters fourth day
Significantly, the Congress is in direct opposition to the BJP in both these states where there is no third party, and the two face each other directly in elections.
“Down with Narendra Modi!” With all humility I want to say, you protest but do not use harsh words like Black Day. It should be taken back. The MPs, however, refused to vacate and protested in the Well of the House, forcing its adjournment for the day.
“We will not budge…” Meanwhile, Congress president and vice president also reacted on External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj’s statement on Lalitgate.
Congress leaders blamed Prime Minister Narendra Modi directly for the mass suspension, describing it as a “bullying tactic”.
The party’s chief whip in the Lok Sabha, Jyotiraditya Scindia, said the suspended MPs will not submit an apology to Speaker Sumitra Mahajan.
“Vyapam scam has destroyed future of 1000s in MP”.
Gandhi also reiterated his charge against Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj, whose resignation the Congress is demanding for helping tainted cricket magnate Lalit Modi. Faced with such obduracy, the BJP may consider seeking Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh’s help to mediate on their behalf, the Indian Expressreport said.
He added: “The PM likes to do “Mann ki baat”.
Members of the Youth Congress on Thursday staged a protest against Mahajan for suspending 25 Congress MPs on August 3 by taking off their shirts. Nine parties including Trinamool Congress, Rashtriya Janata Dal, Left, Nationalist Congress Party and Aam Aadmi Party have backed the Congress and will boycott the Lok Sabha as well.
His response came as Mr Kharge opposed the Speaker’s move to name MPs from his party for disrupting the proceedings.
In the Rajya Sabha, the Congress and several other opposition parties created pandemonium over the issue, leading to a washout of the days proceedings. Madhusudan Mistry waved a piece of black cloth. Today, Rahul Gandhi said the voice of the opposition is “being suppressed in Parliament”.
“The BJP seems to think that they have a majority in the Parliament and can do whatever they like”.
All protesting MPs surrounded the Speaker’s podium with younger MPs such as Sushmita Dev, Gaurav Gogoi, KC Veugopal, Rajeev Satav, Deepender Hooda, Ravneet Singh ‘Bittu, Ranjeet Ranjan etc keeping up their sloganeering to make up for the ones with lesser stamina.
