Congressman Bishop supports female Army Rangers

Two American women have passed the gruelling training programme of the US Army Rangers – one of the military’s most elite special operations forces.
There are already emerging signals on how some of the services plan to proceed.
The military’s toughest jobs remain closed to female soldiers.
Military officers have pledged standards will not decline as a result of integrating women into the fields as they open up. The Army has not identified the two female officers who will officially graduate Ranger School on Friday morning during a ceremony at Fort Benning’s Victory Pond. All prospective rangers endure 62 days of arduous trials, including sleep deprivation, ultra-rough conditions, and limited food.
Defense Secretary Ashton Carter, a civilian who never served in the military, is expected to rule on each request by January with guidance and feedback from senior military officials.
We spoke to a local veteran who has graduated from Ranger school, and says he was surprised when he heard the news.
Today, about 220,000 positions are open only to men.
Men and women were all held to the same standards, and it was frequently hard to tell them apart in the scenes the Army allowed cameras to record. Approximately 34 percent of students recycle at least once.
Three women became the first to finish the Marine Corps’ combat-training course at Camp Geiger, on November. 21, 2013, but that service is still conducting studies to gauge their ability to serve in infantry units.
Special operations command is likely to allow women to compete for the most demanding military commando jobs, including the Navy Seals and the Army’s Delta Force. “These women have demonstrated some of the greatest overall strength, and I hope that the Pentagon will act as swiftly as possible to ensure that Kristen, Shaye, and all of the women that follow in their footsteps are able to join the 75th Ranger Regiment if they so choose”.
Past year the Navy considered seeking an exception that would have prohibited women from serving on older guided missile frigates, mine-countermeasure ships and patrol coast craft.
Reactions varied as news of the women’s accomplishments spread. “We understand that this will take time”, Bockholt said. “It just shows that you can have different leadership styles and still be successful”. Then, the mountain phase includes more small-unit operations and survival techniques.
The two female and 94 male graduates started in a class of 400 soldiers. A third female soldier remains in training, but the others have washed out.
The two successful graduates will wear the prestigious Ranger Tab on their uniforms.
Griest entered Ranger School as a first lieutenant and has yet to pin on her captain’s bars.
Was the training modified for the women?
“The standard can not be lowered”, she said.
“I see it as sort of reality and perceptions kind of catching up together”. The school has not been fully opened to women, and the November class, like the one that began in April, is being called a pilot.
