Connecticut Huskies Take on BYU Cougars in Week 5
The Huskies, trailing 13-10, faced a third-and-1 from their own 26 when BYU safety Kai Nacua pressured UConn quarterback Bryant Shirreffs as he passed the ball.
Passes of 25 yards to Tommy Myers and 11 yards to Newsome set up Bobby Puyol’s 42-yard field goal to make it a 20-13 game with 8:59 to play.

Scrambling to make just enough plays to hang around, the double-digit underdog UConn football team found itself with the lead on the road against a Brigham Young team that had handled the Huskies with relative ease 13 months earlier.
The Cougars squandered their scoring opportunities from nearly the opening kickoff. UConn made it a 10-10 game on the first of two Bobby Puyol field goals and a 30-yard Arkeel Newsome touchdown catch. UConn matched that scoring output, but with just 24 plays that went for 104 yards.
Finally, the Huskies began to show a few life on offense late in the first half.
– Tanner Mangum completed 35-of-53 passes for 365 yards and two scores and two interceptions. Shirreffs has 847 passing yards and four touchdowns on the season.
Connecticut running back Arkeel Newsome (22) is lifted in the air… The Cougars bounced back before their drive stalled at the Huskies’ 8 and Samson booted a tying 26-yard field goal with 3:02 remaining in the quarter.BYU struck first when true freshman running back Francis Bernard capped a 12-play, 87-yard drive with a 1-yard plunge with 2:44 remaining in the first quarter.
The Cougars picked up eight first downs in the first quarter alone, matching their entire output at Michigan and out gained the visitors 134-29 in the first 15 minutes.
