Connecticut woman retrieving item on track killed by train
A Metro-North train struck and killed a woman in Connecticut Friday morning after she apparently went onto the tracks to retrieve a fallen item. Officials said they believed she was trying to cross to the platform on the opposite side.
“It’s tragic that this happened”, Daniels said.
A medical examiner is on the scene, according to Hearst Connecticut Media Groupwhich is reporting an investigator said the unidentified woman had dropped her wallet onto the tracks. All lines are now on or close to schedule.
The train that killed her was an 8:29 a.m. express train out of Grand Central Terminal that was not scheduled to stop at Cos Cob, officials said. It was then when the Metro North train struck the female.
The victim’s identity was not released.
A person was struck by a train Friday morning in the area of the Cos Cob station, according to a report.
Rail service was delayed by 30 to 40 minutes.
The deadly crash is the third along the Metro North and Amtrak train tracks within the past few months.
Metro-North spokeswoman Meredith Daniels around 10 a.m. confirmed the fatality in a phone interview with the Register.
There are delays on the Waterbury branch of Metro-North because of police activity near Cos Cob.
