Conor McGregor: ‘American Gringo’ Rafael dos Anjos a ‘Traitor to His People’
Conor McGregor will move up to the lightweight division with a blockbuster title fight against champion Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 197.
Holm will look to defend her title against Miesha Tate.
Holm, meanwhile, won the title with a dominating performance over Ronda Rousey this past November.
UFC have today announced McGregor will attempt to become the first fighter ever to hold two title belts simultaneously when he squares off against the Brazilian champion on March 6.
It seems McGregor is calling dos Anjos a “traitor” because the lightweight champ left Brazil to train full-time at King’s MMA in Southern California. He won the 145-pound title with a 13-second knockout of Jose Aldo last month.
Tate, who has suffered two defeats to Rousey, was granted her request to tackle Holm after Rousey was handed a lengthy medical suspension. Dos Anjos needed just 66 seconds to take apart Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone.
Should McGregor be successful against Dos Anjos, he will be the first fighter in UFC history to hold two belts at the same time.
“I hope so [she’ll fight at UFC 200]”.
Regardless of who wins – and Tate is a very real chance given her high-pressure wrestling game and much-improved striking – the fight sets the stage for UFC 200 in June.
Rousey has remained largely out of the public eye since her first career defeat but recently made headlines after revealing her return to the 2016 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition and hosting gig on Saturday Night Live on January 23.
Tickets for UFC 197 will go on sale Friday, Jan. 22.
