Conor McGregor completes UFC takeover
Jose Aldo v Conor McGregor, MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas, USA.
It marked Aldo’s first loss in 10 years and extended McGregor’s win streak to 15 fights.
In the months between then and Sunday’s showdown, McGregor bombarded the Brazilian with taunt after taunt but Aldo denied the constant trash talk was a distraction.
“But I think now is still too early to speak, said Aldo”.
McGregor’s next fight may very well set a UFC live gate and attendance records with his next fight possibly held at Croke Park in Ireland.
McGregor is expected to move up to lightweight and fight the victor of Rafael Dos Anjos – Donald Cerrone at UFC on FOX 17 or will fight Frank Edgar at featherweight. After winning the featherweight title at UFC 194, he appears ready to take another huge step in realizing that goal.
EA Sports had announced that the victor of McGregor’s fight against Jose Aldo would join Rousey on the cover of the second installment of its UFC game.
Kavanagh appeared on The MMA Hour and said McGregor wants a lightweight title shot in March or April, and then plans to defend his featherweight championship against Frankie Edgar at UFC 200 in July.
UFC lightweights say McGregor will get hurt if he moves into their neighbourhood.
On to the chin of Aldo rendering motionless on the floor and the Vegas crowd stunned, I was heartbroken to see my one of my idols destroyed.
“I do enjoy the numbers”, he said.
“When I left the dinner, I called my partner Lorenzo Fertitta and said ‘I don’t know if this guy can fight but if he can even throw a punch, he’s going to be the biggest star ever'”.
And speaking at the post-fight press conference, McGregor added: “If they offer me Croke Park, or if they offer me the football [Aviva] stadium, you’re damn right I’m gonna take it”.
Aldo took time to thank his fans and those in Brazil for their support. “Way stronger. You can be sure that we will come back stronger, more champion than I was before”.
“You’ve had some unbelievable fights and an fantastic reign as a champion and I look forward to seeing you inside the Octagon again”, Rogan said.
