Conor McGregor Next Fight: Rematch vs. Jose Aldo Likely For 2016
Conor McGregor was declared the victor by knockout and crowned featherweight champion Saturday against Jose Aldo during UFC 194 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
Much like former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey, Jose Aldo had been on top of the division since its inception.
The Conor McGregor knockout video had many UFC fighters expressing their shock on social media.
If Aldo gets back to winning ways there’s a good chance that a rematch could take place at some stage in the future though, and he believes that when the time comes he’ll avenge his defeat. “In case you’re curious, a more optimistic estimate for McGregor – say, a $5 PPV cut and 1.5 million PPV buys – would equate to almost $622,000 per second ($8 million total)”.
The Irish fighter clearly knew his way with words and also in the ring. With a lot of fans expecting an action-packed tiff, the flawless and precision timing that McGregor landed on Aldo was something no one had expected.
In his first interview following the loss, a heart broken Aldo tells Combate that trying to digest the defeat is a tough thing to do.
The moments leading up to the fight were tense as both fighters came into the ring ready for an epic battle.
McGregor is open to the idea despite initially saying that a rematch will depend on how the fight goes.
The main event of UFC 194 ended in just 13 seconds.
McGregor floored Jose Aldo with a thunderous shot, unifying the featherweight titles and leaving his mark on the sport.
“Unfortunately for me and a whole packed plane we are all going to be affected by a few drunk fools”, Coyne said on Friday.
“We spoke (with UFC commissioner Dana White) right after. But I think now is still too early to speak, said Aldo”. So when I go up to the lightweight, for that lightweight belt and I take that lightweight belt, I will still be the featherweight champion also.
Boom, he’s back. We’ll see what Conor decides to do, if he decides to make the weight, not make the weight, whatever.
He continued, “It wasn’t this time, but we will come out victorious, for sure”.
