Conor McGregor potentially faces a six month absence from the Octagon
Aldo is calling for an immediate rematch but McGregor is already eyeing a move up to lightweight and a summer return to defend his belt against Frankie Edgar. “It’s a sport and we have to accept”.
Aldo looked very tense i the moments counting down to the fight with his opponent seemingly basking in the big and grand nature that the bout brought along with it, people obviously wanted a longer fight, but the result can not be contested, the Brazilian, who was undefeated through 18 fights, spanning a total of 10 years, was brought down by the stronger competitor. Only 13 seconds, ‘ he is quoted as saying by BJPENN.com.
One thing is for sure I will be waiting eagerly for Aldo’s second encounter with McGregor, as a fan of the sport, both of these athletes and for the simple dream of one day sharing the cage with them.
‘I also remember when I came in, how I tried to punch. But, man, it’s hard to say know if it’s [his] success or [my] mistake. Despite all of the Irishman’s brash chatter, the performance over Aldo silenced the doubters.
And just like that, McGregor adds another feather to his cap of achievements, although a rematch looms over the horizon.
One fighter, in particular, mirroring those sentiments is former UFC light heavyweight champ Jon “Bones” Jones. For now, Aldo will be using this time to rest, reflect and regroup.
‘I do think the next one will be lightweight for the title, ‘ he told The MMA Hour.
“We spoke (with Dana White) right after”.
He continued, “It wasn’t this time, but we will come out victorious, for sure”. “It’s a sport, we have to accept. Not only from wins you live your life”.
This is the fastest stoppage in UFC title fight history and the most definitive way we have seen a champion lose thus far.
Edgar was hoping to get another shot at the title after failing to do so at UFC 156 following a unanimous decision loss to Aldo.
