Conor McGregor’s coach John Kavanagh reveals the most likely next fight for
Conor McGregor, left, fights Jose Aldo during a featherweight championship mixed martial arts bout at UFC 194, Saturday, Dec. 12, 2015, in Las Vegas.
‘Maybe that and then July, UFC 200. Yet when asked to foresee his own future after he ended Aldo’s 18-fight winning streak, McGregor wasn’t quite ready.
The Irish fighter clearly knew his way with words and also in the ring.
Rousey was famously kicked in the head by Holly Holm at UFC 193 in November, and on Saturday, Aldo was sent crashing to the mat courtesy of a Conor McGregor left hook.
Aldo pulled out two weeks before his last scheduled fight with McGregor in July, citing a rib injury, and perhaps that would have been the wiser move this time around, too.
The moments leading up to the fight were tense as both fighters came into the ring ready for an epic battle.
Fans and media were stunned after the 13-second knockout.
The 29-year-old went undefeated for more than 10 years and was reigning over the featherweight division in WEC and UFC for six years before his loss to McGregor.
However it appears Aldo will have to wait for a chance to right the ship against McGregor since the new champion has made it clear he wants to move up to 155-pounds and challenge for his second belt. We trained a lot, did everything right and the result was not positive.
Aldo hopes his status as the division’s only other champion – he had held the belt for five years since it’s inception – will mean a rematch with the Irishman is not hard to sort out. If it were up to the Brazilian, he’d like an immediate rematch against McGregor. “The trash talking didn’t affect me, I don’t care what he says”, he said.
“I think every champion, after losing, and especially the way I lost – no excuses, I lost, he connected with a good strike and was successful – but, of course, I want a rematch”. Not only me, but my career speaks for itself.
This is the fastest stoppage in UFC title fight history and the most definitive way we have seen a champion lose thus far.
