Conor McGregor’s victory in UFC leaves fans reeling
White immediately penciled Homl-Rousey 2 at UFC 200 in July for a reason that “Rowdy” has done great in her MMA career. But EA had promised one more fighter would grace the cover (and it’s a good thing, too, because Ronda had a rough few weeks shortly after her cover reveal) for its UFC sequel.
The fight between UFC Featherweight Interim Champion Conor McGregor and UFC Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo was more of a grudge match than an unification bout at UFC 194.
One way or another, it doesn’t look like Jose Aldo is getting another crack at Conor McGregor any time soon.
Velasquez isn’t a huge PPV draw either and hasn’t accomplished near as much as Jose Aldo, whereas Rousey’s return against Holm could set the UFC all-time PPV record.
McGregor targeted the imperious Brazilian champion with a steady stream of trash talk before the fight.
“If I go up to that lightweight division, there’s no way in hell I’m vacating my belt”, he said.
This biggest appeal of the fight had to be the pre-fight interviews and press conferences in where it appeared that McGregor seemed to get underneath the skin of the usually cool Aldo.
But if he wants a shot at the lightweight belt, he’ll have to fight UFC president Dana White for the right to keep the featherweight title at the same time.
It was a fitting result for him, as McGregor had previously claimed in the build up to the fight that he would “embarrass” Aldo with a first-round knockout.
“I think that we need the rematch, it was really not a fight so we need to get back in here.”
“If you can see it and have the courage enough to speak it, it will happen”, McGregor said.
‘The belts will still be active because I am active, I’m as active as anyone’. “I would have preferred if it stretched out just a little bit longer for all that it has been through but I still feel the same process would have happened”, McGregor explained. “I don’t care what he says”. “Tell me one other champion who has been like that”, he also said.
