Conor McGregor Set To Fight At Croke Park?
Cerrone might lose a few Irish fans – of which there are many – by pursuing the fight with McGregor, but we’re sure the benefits for his bank balance would make up for it. If I knew what was going to happen, I’d be Vince McMahon.
The fighter, who is approaching the business end of preparation for his mega UFC featherweight title unification fight with Jose Aldo at UFC 194, took a break from training to chill with some friends at the famed Swords night spot, according to theIrish Independent.
Former UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis is talking once again about the possibility of dropping down to featherweight for a couple of potential super fights, such as bouts with Jose Aldo and/or Conor McGregor, and this time he seems serious.
Given that McGregor is essentially a national hero in his native Ireland it’s no surprise that the UFC would be willing to bring a stadium show there, but White has acknowledged that there would be some considerable hurdles to overcome (not to mention the fact that McGregor has to beat the No.1 pound-for-pound fighter in the sport first!) before a fight at Croke Park could become a reality. “He talks well, he’s doing a great job for his weight class. I mean, there would be no big money fights in featherweight, besides… that’s why I was gonna move down there”.
“That didn’t happen. Uncle Dana said no. He knew that for Conor McGregor to take a fight with me in Mexico City at 155 at short notice would be a very dangeroussituation for him with the altitude and just the circumstances would be very diceyfor him to do that”. It’s not featherweight. For him to say, he’s gonna come up there and walk through everybody, it’s crazy.
Pettis has been out of action since he lost his belt last March when he was destroyed by current champion Rafael dos Anjos. “I was on top of the world, had a bad performance. I’m not a meteorologist, but I’ll bet you it’s going to rain”.
“I think Eddie’s tough, he has great hands, he’s been around for a long time, he’s been in five-round fights, so we know, he has the gas tank, the ability to compete at the highest level.”
The Dubliner is nowadaysranked number one in the featherweight division of UFC.
