Conor McGregor would ‘most certainly’ box Floyd Mayweather if he got the
Jose Aldo pulled out of his featherweight title defense against Conor McGregor at UFC 189 next weekend. Now, the whole of Ireland and the McGregor bandwagon may just take their bets and put them on McGregor again, but Mendes is a completely different animal than Aldo, and he could indeed be a tougher fight for the Irish phenom. Now the news is that Aldo will not fight, but he will retain his UFC Featherweight title.
UFC 189: McGregor vs. Mendes takes place on Saturday, July 11, 2015 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Mendes says that within 24 hours of the Aldo injury news breaking, he was in Las Vegas to reach a deal with Dana White.
The Brazilian sustained a rib injury in training last Tuesday and his participation in the fight has been in doubt since initial reports from his camp suggested he may have incurred a fractured rib.
The world of pure unarmed combat where there are no limitations, but I most certainly would step into his world. He was, however, cleared by doctors to fight before pulling out. Getting in there and getting a belt against a guy like him, who in my opinion has a lot of holes in his game, is something I couldn’t pass up. McGregor is 5-0 in his time with the UFC, which began in 2013. McGregor’s acting skills (or lack therof) are similar to Upton’s, but his UFC celebrity (and/or epic tattoos) make him a more natural selection for the brand. But if he does, that’s on him and I can not force another individual to step in there.
McGregor thinks Mendes is in the wrong weight division because he gasses too quickly.
“If there’s one fight you didn’t want to fall out, it would be this one”, White said. “He’s a wrestler with an overhand…It’s the McGregor division now”.
Since embarking on his UFC career, Conor McGregor has been fed a steady diet striking technicians – and he’s outmatched them all.
“It’s been nuts. Right when that news broke, I started to get phone calls from everyone, texts from everyone”. McGregor was asked about how he would fare in a fight against boxing superstar Floyd Mayweather Jr., the richest athlete in the world who made upward of $200 million to face Manny Pacquiao in May. I’m here to shut this man down, break that pay-per-view record and cash a big fat check.
