Conservative pushes symbolic effort against Boehner
Boehner “uses the power of the office to punish members who vote according to their conscience instead of the will of the Speaker” and “has intentionally provided for voice votes on consequential and controversial legislation to be taken without notice and with few members present”.
Meadows, or any member, could bring up the motion to vacate as a privileged motion at any time, and force a vote within days.
“But Rep. Walter Jones (R-N.C.), who has repeatedly voted against Boehner, said there’s a lot of ‘dissatisfaction with the leadership, ‘” according to Politico. Meadows, however, chose not to offer it in that form, which he said was a sign that he wanted a discussion. I think the anti-Boehner thing is playing well.
Some conservatives in the House spoke about Meadow’s motion in favorable terms on Tuesday, while other members derided it as a publicity stunt.
Meadows, a founder of the House Freedom Caucus, has long been at odds with Boehner, whom he and others on the GOP’s right consider to be too accommodating to Obama. “No big deal”, Boehner said.
In a press conference Wednesday, Boehner was dismissive of Meadows’ chances of success, and even some of Meadows’ ideological allies in the House expressed skepticism.
And the speaker may get his wish. The faction of Republicans who oppose Boehner would need the support of every single Democrat, and Democratic leaders have suggested they aren’t interested in ousting the speaker.
“It’s in the hopper”, Jill Shatzen-Kerr, the committee’s communications director said.
Meadows seemed to anticipate he wouldn’t have much support from fellow conservatives. This particular decision may send me home. “Ultimately what I want to is to make sure everyone is treated fairly”.
“Local Republicans, for the most part, love him”, Cooper said Wednesday.
Boehner has been elected House Speaker three times.
At literally every turn since taking over the U.S. House in 2011, Boehner has turned in the wrong direction – caving to the administration of Barack Obama (and sticking you with the check). Other conservative lawmakers have promised that something will pass, but most likely the issue will be given a stop-gap measure and kicked down the road to a later date. Now he’s declared all-out war, and he could quickly find out how many people are willing to back him up. His mother worked as a civilian nurse.
Meadows said his issue is not with Boehner personally and he would be content with changes in the way the House is run. He decided to lose weight through exercise after being rejected for a date. And I can’t believe we had one of our own want to take the attention off of this. “It divides the party”, centrist Rep. Peter King (R-N.Y.), a Boehner ally, told The Hill.
The White House said in a statement released late Tuesday that Jeff Miller’s bill would be unfair to the VA. This gets us off of where we should be. “This is just a distraction”.
That “member here and a member there” right now are most prominently Mark Meadows and Tea Party senator and presidential Ted Cruz.
“It’s awful. It makes no sense”.
Many Democrats are wary of crossing the interests of independent refinery workers, whose industry profits from the ban on crude exports that keeps domestic prices below the worldwide benchmark. “The idea of throwing it in a box and seeing what happens is an ill-fated strategy”.
