Consumer Reports questions quality of Tesla’s Model X SUV
Sales targets are also important, most notably how many Model X cars the company is building each week. The CEO added that the interest in Model 3 “surprised even us”, without offering a precise number.
Fortunately for Tesla bulls, quality control should now shift towards the top of Tesla’s priority list because the Model 3 has arrived. The Model S starts at about $75,000 before incentives. The model is viewed as quite promising in the price category of $35,000, before federal incentives. After all, the company has only managed to produce 125,000 cars up to this point since the Roadster began shipping in 2008.
Some might recall that Elon said right after the unveiling party for the Model 3 that the first deliveries for that vehicle will be to people who live closest to the factory. “Future of electric cars looking bright”, an overwhelmed Musk said. So now must be the time for Tesla to gear up deliveries going forward.
The Tesla Model X, an all-electric crossover SUV, is creating some problems for venture capitalist Byron Deeter, who is one of the first owners. But still, Tesla is know for designing the slipperiest cars in the industry, and some of the aerodynamic enablers found on the X could be emulated on a gasoline vehicle.
The particular vehicle Ford purchased was the 64 Model X to come off of Tesla’s assembly line in Fremont, Calif. Bloomberg says that it was recently noticed in Detroit, where Ford is headquartered.
Investors shouldn’t underestimate the ability of other major auto manufacturers to offer stiff competition in the electric vehicle market.
In a statement to TechCrunch, Tesla said: “While we have seen some issues with early Model X builds, the issues are not widespread, and we are working closely with each owner to respond quickly and proactively to address any problems”. Michael Karpf’s Model X has issues with its doors failing to close, open or sense objects to prevent striking them.
Tesla told both the WSJ and Consumer Reports that door problems should be “largely behind us now”, and the company pointed both publications to the high satisfaction rating it still enjoys from its customers. Mr. Musk’s recent comments in Norway are hinting toward Morgan Stanley’s expectations. There’s been a positive stock reaction more often than not, irrespective of the numbers.
