Contract Details For New Steelers QB Zach Mettenberger
Have you gotten over the shock of the Pittsburgh Steelers claiming quarterback Zach Mettenberger off of waivers from the San Diego Chargers on Wednesday? It looks as if the Steelers now have two ‘bergers in town, at least for the immediate future.
Mettenberger was drafted in the sixth round of the 2014 draft by the Titans out of LSU.
Mettenberger was placed on waivers by the San Diego Chargers this week. However, after failing to impress through the first three preseason games, he didn’t even make it past the first set of mandatory cuts. Gradkowski is dealing with a hamstring injury and Vaughan is suffering with a hand injury.
The Steelers seemed previously content with Landry Jones as Ben Roethlisberger’s backup, and they may still be.
It certainly doesn’t mean Mettenberger will have any chance at all of beating out Jones, who appears fairly safe as the No. 2, this despite drawing heavy criticism for his overall performance this preseason.
He spent all of last year’s regular season on IR and was re-signed to a one-year deal in May.
Despite a career record of 0-10, which may or may not be his fault, there is still a market for quarterback Zach Mettenberger.
