Conway Still Has Edge In Close Governor’s Race, Bluegrass Poll Shows
Democratic candidate Jack Conway was quick to note the potential awkwardness during the debate.
“I’m the only one of us that has the word “independent” beside their name on this ballot”, Curtis said.
Bevin and Conway had a few particularly testy exchanges throughout the debate with about one month to go in the country’s most competitive governor’s race.
If elected, Conway has promised a big investment in early childhood education while Bevin has identified jobs and a more pro-business stance as his priorities.
Curtis stuck to his guns on why he entered the race: the unfunded liabilities in the state’s pension systems. “Or it could mean the candidate’s doing fine on his own”, Clayton said. Only 15 percent said Bevin should release his return after the election while 18 percent said they were not sure. “It may not be physically able to do what I’m about to say on the first day…”
The Republican Governor’s Association isn’t giving a reason for pulling the ads and said they could put them back on later.
Many television ads in the race focus not on the candidates but on Democratic President Barack Obama who previous Bluegrass Polls show is unpopular with a majority of Kentucky voters.
Curtis said he was open to raising taxes if it was necessary, but he ” would rather streamline the tax code and get the efficiencies out of that, instead”. “If he doesn’t come up with it (step two) then I’m out”.
“He’s not taking shots at people”. He’s intelligent. He’s articulate.
When Jones clarified with him that Bevin was supporting fellow Kentuckian U.S. Sen.
Bevin said he thinks “the world of Rand” but at this point he’s “looking at people who I think would have the best chance of uniting all the pieces”.
“To be obvious.I really like Ben Carson, but not advertising him or anyone for POTUS.Have never sanctioned from my experience. If I performed would likely #StandWithRand”, Bevin tweeted. “But in terms of who I would select right now he would not be the first choice”. Rand Paul would campaign with Bevin on Saturday.
For Conway, Jones asked him about Conway’s defense of coal but not appealing the same-sex marriage ruling per Kentucky’s constitution. The rally comes before a forum at the university focusing on minority issues that Bevin and his running mate are scheduled to attend.
The political landscape of the race remains largely unchanged since Kentucky voters were surveyed for July’s poll.
