Cop responds to noise complaints about basketball-playing kids -by joining game
A Gainesville police officer is being applauded by many for how he handled a recent complaint from neighbors.
‘Obviously, I ain’t got no problem with it, ‘ the cop reassures the teen. “Most kids and their parents are sensible enough to move the hockey net off the streets when they see cars coming along”.
While replying to a 911 dispatch noting noise complaints about a group of kids playing basketball on the street last Friday, the officer chose to play with the kids rather than yell at them.
When Officer White pulled up to the location, he immediately observed kids doing what kids do best – simply having fun; not committing crimes.
When they lowered the hoop at one point, White even jumped up and slammed the ball through the net one-handed.
He also said he may come by the next day…with backup for another game.
The video from the Gainesville PD ends with a note telling viewers it plans to focus on those committing crimes.
The Gainesville Police Department, seeing an opportunity to change hearts and minds, posted the video to its Facebook wall, where it has since received over 100,000 shares and over four million views.
Officer White took it upon himself to join in the fun. Shortly after that, he told the kids he was going to head out.
