Cop shot at point blank range during patrol, escapes unhurt
Traffic officer Nizaam Alexander had pulled over a silver Mercedes in Cape Town, South Africa. As the officer is talking to the people in the vehicle, a man, walking along the road, passes the officer.
Officer hailed for his bravery after being shot at point blank during a routine traffic stop.
Despite his gun first jamming, the criminal approached the unsuspecting police officer from behind and shot.
The gunman then flees and the officer ducks behind the Mercedes Benz.
Alexander, who was saved from serious injury by his bullet proof vest, returned fire and chased the shooter, who had wanted to rob him of his firearm.
Alexander was presented with the city’s Traffic Officer of the Year Award 2015. He falls to the ground but gets up quickly, returning 3 shots at the suspect and chasing after him.
Unable to capture the suspect, Alexander returned to the auto to finish issuing the traffic ticket to the driver before seeking medical attention.
According to the YouTube caption, Nizaam won the City of Cape Town Traffic Services Departmental Officer of the Year Award for his dedication to serving the public.
