Cops: Pokémon Go used to lure victims of armed robbery spree
At around 2 a.m. Sunday, police responded to a report of an armed robbery near a wide intersection in O’Fallon, a city west of St. Louis.
The suspects were found sitting in a vehicle with a handgun earlier today after authorities were called to a potential armed robbery, according to the O’Fallon Police Department.
As for the Pokémon four, in the end it was police who caught them all.
Following a report about a woman finding a dead body while playing Pokemon Go comes another wild story about the hugely popular mobile game.
In answering questions on Facebook, police say shots were fired when they located the suspects and their names will be released on Sunday when warrants are issued. After collecting the creatures, players can improve them and use them to do battle. Players can also place beacons at these Pokéstops to give other players extra perks.
The O’Fallon Police department told Gizmodo that all four suspects are between the ages of 16 and 18 and they robbed eight or nine people over the course of the last few days.
“For the first time, with this game, Pokemon are going to roam free in the real world”, John Hanke, CEO of Niantic said.
The app, which allows users to interact virtually with Pokemon characters nearby in the real world, has a “Lure Module” that players can use to attract both Pokemon and other users to their location.
