CBS2/KCAL9’s Adrianna Weingold reports authorities say it happened around 10:30 p.m. Friday in parking lot “L” while fans walked to their cars after the Mets beat the Dodgers.
Channel 7 Eyewitness News in Los Angeles interviewed a witness at the scene who said the attacker was tall, with long, blond hair. The victim is in stable but critical condition at the hospital.
The assault comes about five years after San Francisco Giants fan Bryan Stow was brutally beaten in the stadium lot following the season opener. They said the man was punched and then fell, striking his head. “Particularly for championship games or key rivalries, we deploy a significant amount of officers”. Security at Dodger Stadium came under national scrutiny following the violent attack on Brian Stow in 2011.
If Game 5 occurs and returns to Dodger Stadium on Thursday, Beck said there would be a ramped-up response from LAPD. Two men, Marvin Norwood and Louie Sanchez, pleaded guilty and were sent to federal prison. “You heard his skull hitting the concrete”, the witness told the L.A. Times. A jury faulted the team, along with Sanchez and Norwood, and awarded Stow almost $18 million after a six-week trial in 2014.
