Corey Clement suffers cut on hand during incident at residence
Former Glassboro (N.J.) running back Corey Clement, now a junior running back at Wisconsin, was assaulted near his off-campus apartment this past weekend, the Badgers announced Thursday.
Clement was returning home when he witnessed an argument between a security guard at his apartment building and a group of individuals. Clement stepped in to the dispute. Clement tried to intervene and dissolve the situation but the group assaulted Clement and the security guard, leaving Clement with a cut on his hand.
On Wednesday, Clement was at the Badgers’ practice but did not participate while continuing to rehab from the hernia injury.
What started out as a potentially promising year has turned into a tough-luck campaign for Clement, who hurt his groin in practice the week before the September season opener against Alabama.
Clement, head coach Paul Chryst and Wisconsin’s athletic department will not address the incident further pending an ongoing police investigation. While he returned for a 115-yard, three-touchdown outing against Rutgers on October 31, he was held out of last Saturday’s game against Maryland.
His availability for November 21’s game against Northwestern is unclear at this time.
