Corey Cogdell-Unrein, wife of Bears DE Mitch, wins bronze
Corey Cogdell-Unrein won a bronze medal in women’s trap Sunday, the second for the USA shooting team at the Rio Olympics. The two were tied with 13 made shots each in the 15-round event and Cogdell prevailed in a shoot-off.
Cogdell-Unrein became a bronze medalist in women’s trap shooting after she competed for the honor with Spain’s Fatima Galvez.
Married to Chicago Bears defensive-end Mitchell Unrein, the Bears showed their support for the shooter in a series of posts from the official Bears Twitter account, even designing their own shirts for the three-time Olympian. The 29-year-old Alaska native also medaled in 2008 in Beijing.
Australia’s Catherine Skinner won the gold, beating New Zealand’s Natalie Rooney in the final, 12-11. They try to arrange waterfowl hunting trips during the bye week each season.
“I am pretty proficient”, Unrein said. It is so fast. “When they shoot, the angles are more severe, and they go 60 to 80 miles per hour”.
