Coroner: Ohio motorist shot by cop had bottle of fragrance
Hamilton County coroner Dr. Lakshmi (LAHK’-shmee) Sammarco (suh-MAHR’-koh) says lab analysis found compounds consistent with those in air fresheners or perfumes.
President Santa Ono said Tuesday that the school has created the position of Vice President for Safety and Reform in the wake of the fatal shooting of Sam DuBose by former UC Officer Ray Tensing.
“Oh, it’s a bottle of air freshener”, DuBose told him.
She will also work with Kroll Inc, the company conducting an internal review of all aspects related to the shooting that led to the death of Samuel DuBose. He thought he was going to be dragged under the auto and “feared for his life”, according to his attorney.
Samuel DuBose gave Officer Ray Tensing the Barton Gin bottle during the brief exchange on July 19.
Prosecutors disputed Tensing’s version and hailed a grand jury’s decision to indict the quick-trigger cop.
“University of Cincinnati Officer Ray Tensing’s body-cam footage shows the ‘bottle of gin” the officer asked about.
Tensing, 25, pleaded not guilty to charges of murder and voluntary manslaughter.
DuBose died of a gunshot to the head, a preliminary autopsy found.
Justin Weber, an investigator with the coroner’s office, said no other findings, including whether DuBose was drinking, would be released until the investigation was finished. Campus patrolmen Phillip Kidd and David Lindenschmidt arrived on the scene shortly after Dubose was fatally shot by a fellow officer.
His family has set up a trust in Hamilton County Probate Court as the first step to filing a wrongful-death lawsuit in the killing. Tensing shot and killed DuBose, who was unarmed.
