Correa’s 13th-inning RBI gives Astros 3-2 win over Rays
Tampa Bay’s bullpen faltered for the second straight night and it led to yet another loss.
While on the sidelines during the preseason games, he said he tries to help the young players, which is easy for him since it wasn’t that long ago that he was one of them. It took him 27 pitches to get out of that inning but he then settled down and was efficient until the seventh when the Rays scored two runs. That tied the game at 2-2 and the teams headed into extras.
Cameras captured Watt sharing a game of catch with a fan in the upper deck of NRG Stadium in Houston as the rest of the crowd cheered them on.
Colby Rasmus walked with one out in the 13th and advanced to third on a single by Jose Altuve off Matt Andriese (3-3), who was called up from Triple-A Durham on Wednesday.
Correa launched his two-out solo homer to the seats in left field to make it 1-0 in the first.
The rally got left-hander Dallas Keuchel off the hook.
He says: “I saw J.J. with a nice tackle out there and I’m like: ‘Wow, I better quit tackling people'”. “There was definitely a thought”. You’re so excited to get on the field. He allowed just one hit in his first appearance since being optioned August. 3 for rest. “But I just did it for fun”. It’s the fifth time in six starts since the All-Star break that Karns has allowed two runs or fewer.
And they watched it slip away.
Rays: LHP Jake McGee traveled to Tampa on Wednesday and was scheduled to see a doctor on Thursday morning after injuring his left knee on Tuesday night. Wednesday was less dramatic as he blew only his fourth save.
That appeared to be all the runs the Astros would need with the way Keuchel was pitching. “I know exactly what it’s like”, Watt said. “I just didn’t have any luck, that’s for sure”. Brandon Guyer doubled to start the game and Desmond Jennings walked.
The Astros did manage to push three baserunners into scoring position against Karns, who in turn recorded consecutive outs in the third and fifth innings before inducing an inning-ending double play from Astros designated hitter Evan Gattis to cap is outing in the sixth.
He says: “When I’m on the baseball field I feel like the big guy”.
“It’s the most frustrating thing ever because you can’t look at something that you’re doing and change something, ” Boxberger said. That’s probably a little bit the way his luck is going right now, ” Cash said.
Cash made a couple of other decisions that were at least worthy of discussion.
He was credited with 19 snaps in last year’s preseason, 10 snaps in the opener, then nine more in the third preseason game.
Chad Qualls inherited Keuchel’s two base runners in the eighth.
But then they got another and took advantage to take a 2-1 lead. Logan Forsythe singled to start the inning and scored on Tim Beckham’s triple to center field with one out to tie it at 1-all. They went ahead when Beckham scored on a sac fly by Loney.
