Cory Booker no longer denies being vetted for VP
The idea of Cory Booker being Hillary Clinton’s vice presidential pick is something the Senator himself will not confirm nor deny any claims that he is being vetted, but he seems to be suggesting that if people want answers, they should be looking to the Clinton campaign directly. But Cory Booker, New Jersey Senator, is a name that has been popping up in association with the Clinton campaign.
“I’m just referring questions about the vice presidency to the woman who is going to have to make this decision”, Booker said to CNN’s Brianna Keilar.
Booker called the interview routine and said he expects the investigation to wrap up soon, noting that Clinton has been open for an interview since last summer. “You should talk to the Clinton campaign”. He would appeal to blacks, young voters and progressives, three groups Clinton needs to turn heavily.
Booker did not say how he knew nothing improper had occurred. Chris Christie, mentioned as a potential Republican vice-presidential nominee, though he said it didn’t matter who Trump picked.
Asked by Keiler whether Hillary Clinton could still “technically” be indicted despite rumors to the contrary, Booker said: “Technically, you or I could be as well”.
If Booker does manage to be elected as vice president, Christie would pick Booker’s replacement. “It had to do with golf and grandchildren”, Booker said. This is a professional prosecutor, she knows what she’s doing – and she has said, has the appearance of impropriety, but nothing happened, and as a result of that she’s going to accept the determination of the prosecutors working on this case.
Booker responded to criticism of Bernie Sanders, who remains in the race and continues to receive Secret Service protection, saying Sanders might need the protection given his high profile and the possibility he might be under threats not known to the public. “Perhaps there’s something bad going on and he really needs it. Let’s instead focus on the issues that matter”.
