Cosby’s wife slated to give deposition in defamation case
Camille Cosby has filed a last-minute emergency motion to delay deposition that was set on Monday regarding a case filed against her husband Bill Cosby.
But late Saturday night, her lawyers filed an emergency motion to stop the deposition – or at least move it to a venue that is more private than the MA hotel where the proceedings are supposed to take place.
Camille’s attorneys have said that her deposition should be delayed until other people connected to the case have testified, including the women who filed the suit against Bill Cosby.
As the comedian’s wife, Camille Cosby is protected against answering questions about personal conversations with him. They attempted to quash the deposition. However, Mastroianni granted Cosby’s team to delay the deposition and called a hearing to hear the arguments on the issue, CNN reported.
Cosby’s lawyers have said in court papers that the deposition is “nothing more than a thinly veiled attempt to pressure (the) defendant in the face of subjecting his wife to the shame and embarrassment of responding to questions about his alleged infidelities and sexual misconduct”.
Camille Cosby, who married Bill in 1964, has stood behind him. The defamation case doesn’t involve the woman in a criminal case against Cosby. He’s denied their allegations and filed a countersuit.
Seven women are suing Bill Cosby for defamation, after they claim the comedian drugged and raped them.
Tamara Green, who has accused Cosby of sexually assaulting her in 1970, filed the defamation lawsuit against Cosby, in December 2014.
Cosby has previously acknowledged that he pursued sex with younger, often-struggling models and actresses; that he obtained quaaludes in the 1970s to give to women he hoped to seduce; and that he had sexual contact with a woman after giving her wine and pills.
