‘Cosby Show’ actor says Cosby is guilty
The Smithsonian’s National Museum of African Art posted a sign Wednesday that is essentially a disclaimer for its “Conversations” exhibit, which features 62 African-American artworks from the private collection of Bill Cosby and his wife, Camille.
Reported by some critics, the museum should bring down the pieces Bill and his wife, Camille, loaned to Smithsonian’s National museum of African Art’s 50th anniversary exhibit. My father had several of his comedy albums; I memorized them backwards and forwards…
“He was my boyhood idol. His influence on my life has been profound”.
But in the back of his mind was a memory of an open-secret on The Cosby Show’s set: “When I joined the cast of the Cosby Show in 1989, it seemed to be common knowledge that Bill played around”.
‘You didn’t have to see it or hear it to know that it existed….
A “parade” of light-skinned, pretty girls with “good” hair were constantly lounging about the studio and their presence stimulated gossip. “I love dish as much as the next person, but I do prefer to see with my own eyes”. “Few get an opportunity to meet their idol, much less work with them”, he writes. And although he never witnessed any salacious behavior firsthand, he does describe a recent “heartbreaking” encounter he had with a woman who claimed that she too was assaulted by Cosby.
Although Phillips does not reveal the woman’s name, he confirms in his blog post that he not only believes her story but those of most of Cosby’s accusers, even though he admits to initially believing “that some of the women were lying through their teeth”.
Although I’d argue that the predatory parts of Cosby’s legacy are equally important: They’ll help people realize that sexual predators come in all shapes, sizes and professions and with varying intentions. “Discovering that the man you idolize may be a serial rapist is a bit traumatic”.
Phillips explained that once the rape allegations surfaced past year, he met with a woman who told him that Cosby had violated “her body and her trust”.
“She looked at me and then asked, “Is it going to make me cry?’ I was a bit taken aback””. She immediately started to cry.
Phillips recalls sitting with the woman on a bench for two hours as she poured her heart out about her experiences with Cosby, adding, “Through tears, she told me her story”.
‘I listened patiently. As she began to run out of steam, she turned to me. The Smithsonian said that the information was available for anyone who asked.
In the lengthy blog post, Phillips recalls that, during his “Cosby Show” tenure, “my attitude was that if Bill was cheating on [his wife] Camille, I am fairly certain Camille knew”. On Tuesday formerly staunch Cosby supporter Whoopi Goldberg publicly reversed her stance during an interview on her show “The View“.
‘Bill, you have a family who loves you, a wife who is devoted to you; you have more money than you can spend. That’s the Bill Cosby I know. “Why? I was also raging at myself for falling for the okey-doke, of putting Bill on a pedestal”.
