Costa Rica’s head coach Paulo Wanchope involved in insane brawl at match
For the English Premier League old-timers, striker Paulo Wanchope needs no introduction thanks to his spells at Derby County and later, Manchester City.
During Costa Rica’s 2016 Olympic qualifying match against Panama, Wanchope was seen losing his cool after getting into a fight with one of the security officials. The match ended in a scoreless draw, and the real fireworks came after the final whistle blew.
According to reports, the 39-year-old wanted to go onto the pitch to remonstrate with the referee about perceived bad calls.
He then aimed a punch at the security guard next to the gate, who retaliates with a kick before the pair become involved in a scuffle on the ground.
Wanchope is not the only Americas manager who is having trouble controlling his temper: Mexico’s Miguel Herrera was sacked for allegedly attacking a journalist. Police separated the duo but the second-highest goalscorer in the history of Costa Rica’s national team will certainly have a lot of questions to answer, even if it looks like he was only defending himself.
Wanchope’s brother Javier told reporters that security was “bothering” his sibling.
