Cotto and Alvarez in fight that may be worth the price
Alvarez looked to land counter right hands, finding success in the second and third rounds, which prompted Cotto to cover up.

After the win over Cotto, Alvarez stated in the ring during his post-fight interview that he would put the gloves on at that very moment to do battle with his friend and former sparring partner. But many are still wondering if Floyd will face the victor of last night’s fight in May 2016. Now, he wants to fight Gennady Golovkin? “I’m the champion. I don’t have to do what he wants”, Alvarez said about Golovkin. It would make sense if the promoter wanted to delay the bout given that Alvarez is the only superstar on his roster, and Golovkin is perhaps the lone fighter who would be favored over him. “It would interest me, I’ve learned more things, there’s more experience”, Alvarez said in May. “We knew going into this fight that it would be a hard journey, but I feel that I was the faster and stronger fighter tonight”, Alvarez said.
Alvarez thinks he is a more complete boxer more than ever after victory over the 38-year old Miguel Cotto.
And in case there is any doubt about, the 2015 New Jersey Boxing Hall of Fame inductee De la Hoya’s claims, his champ made it crystal clear when he boasted after the fight, “I’m not afraid of anyone”. In my opinion, I’m not saying this is what happened, but in my opinion, either somebody is handpicking these judges or something is going on that’s not right.
As the fight went into the later rounds, Alvarez’s power wore down Cotto, who didn’t have enough gas in the tank to get a stoppage. Alvarez’s power was there again in the ninth round, when he landed several heavy shots that stopped Cotto in his tracks.
Specifically, the fights will be on May 7 and September 17, two big dates in the boxing world.
If Roach was truly unaware that Cotto was losing the fight, then that tells me that Cotto needs to dump Roach and find a trainer that can tell when his fighter is losing or not. Canelo isn’t a one-trick pony, however, is he?
Roach preaches about how good Cotto’s defense was versus Alvarez.
After the match that paid Cotto US$15 million, he and his team felt like he had won the fight. The performance against Cotto will surely draw more fans to his side. Cotto landed 75-of-255 for 29 percent. De La Hoya plans to sit with Alvarez and explore the possible fights before ultimately deciding on how to handle the looming and mandatory showdown with Triple G.
