Cougars to face Miami in Sun Bowl on December 26

The Sun Bowl will be televised live nationally by CBS from Sun Bowl Stadium in El Paso, Texas.

Only three bowl games have a history as long or longer than the Sun Bowl and all three are featured as part of the New Year’s Six.

The Miami Director of Athletics also mentioned the excitement of returning to El Paso for the Hyundai Sun Bowl.

The Miami Hurricanes have had an interesting season to say the least, but they were able to finish the regular season with 8 wins under interim head coach Larry Scott.

“We are thrilled for the opportunity to compete against a talented team in Washington State”, Scott said, calling it a “special opportunity” for his team to gain valuable experience.

“Just cause we wanted to rock with another bowl don’t mean we folding to any team that stand on that other sideline”, senior linebacker Tyriq McCord tweeted after news of the bowl decision leaked. The Hurricanes blew a 23-point lead against Nebraska before winning in overtime, fell on a late touchdown against rival Florida State and suffered the worst loss in program history against Clemson.

The Rose Bowl is the only bowl game that has existed longer than the Sun Bowl, while the Orange Bowl and Sugar Bowl were founded in the same year.

The Hurricanes face Washington State at 2 p.m. on December 26 in El Paso. UM hasn’t won a bowl game since beating Nevada in the 2006 MPC Computers Bowl in Boise, Idaho.

“Washington State is excited to be participating in the 2015 Sun Bowl”, said Moos.

Washington State: Coach Mike Leach’s Air Raid offense has found an ideal signal caller in Falk, the sophomore who leads the country with an average of 387.8 yards passing per game. The Cougars rebounded with a big win over UCLA and convincing wins over Arizona State and Colorado, but an injury to Luke Falk ruined their Apple Cup chances, as the Huskies took that one. The Hurricanes last played a Pac-12 opponent in 2008, when it lost to California in the Emerald Bowl, held in San Francisco.
