Cough syrup recalled because it has morphine
The nationwide voluntary recall affects all lots of the product, which is intended for temporary relief of coughs due to colds, soar throats and other irritations.
Not declared on the label, the opioid is an ingredient of Compound Camphor. Opioid is an ingredient of Compound Camphor.
The recall also says that consumers should contact their healthcare provider or physician if they believe they have experienced any adverse events related with use of this product. This, according to the report, may lead to “life-threatening respiratory depression and death”.
Master Herbs released a press release warning that kids suffering from respiratory conditions should avoid morphine or any opioid.
The company is pulling all lots of the Licorice Coughing liquid sold in Chinese grocery stores in New Jersey, California, Illinois, Ohio, Nevada and Hawaii.
As of Wednesday, Master Herbs was unaware of any adverse effects associated with use of the product.
The company also provides the contact details for any query regarding this recall to consumers.
Any person who may have the product should stop using the product and return it to place of purchase. Retailer and wholesalers should stop distributing the product, quarantine any remaining inventory and make arrangements to return the product.
Morphine is a controlled substance and can be unsafe to consume. This is particularly true of people who are hypersensitive to morphine and could suffer a severe allergic reaction as a result.
The distributor has agreed to recall the product, which had been available online and in retail stores.
