Coughlin resigns as Giants coach after 12 seasons

We’ve been friends a long time, and I’m sad, but I’m happy because it’s a new adventure.

The team has begun a coaching search for Coughlin’s replacement. The Giants record was 6-10 for the 2015 season, which placed them third in the American Football Conference.

Manning was understandably upset, as after 12 years, he’ll have a new coach for the first time in his career next season.

The two were on Bill Parcells’ staff with the Giants from 1988-90.

Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll (64) is now the oldest head coach in the league, followed by Belichick (63) and Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians (63).

But this is a man that has won two Super Bowls in 12 years and you won’t easily find a replacement for that.

New York’s GM accepts blame for the Giants shortcomings this season. He also won a total of 8 playoff games and 3 division titles.

Coughlin’s Giants spoiled a ideal season for Belichick’s Patriots in Super Bowl XLII, only to defeat them again four years later in Super Bowl XLVI.

Try not to dwell on the past three seasons that led to the 69-year-old Coughlin’s resignation on Monday.

Earlier Monday, Giants players gathered in the locker room to clean out their lockers.

Still, Coughlin will be missed by players and fans alike.

Tom Coughlin’s time as the head coach for the New York Giants is over. I want him to think about all the knowledge he can still bring to this organization. He’s a great example of how you should do your job.

Manning continued: “We’ve had a great run”.

Coughlin’s final note of appreciation for Manning was to compliment him for the kind of work ethic a tireless coach like Coughlin could truly appreciate.

General manager Jerry Reese, who is largely responsible for constructing the team, appears to be safe in his role, as the Giants are one of the most patient and stable franchises in the NFL.

Keep in mind that the Giants already have a solid QB situation with Eli Manning and one of the best wideouts in the game in Odell Beckham.

Mara said he asked Coughlin to stay involved in the team in some form.
