Could Cold Feet be returning to our TV screens?
It followed three 30-something couples living in Manchester as they settled down, and followed them through the ups and downs of their relationships, from marriage and affairs, to redundancy and starting a family.
ITV bosses are understood to be in negotiations to secure the core cast, including Hermione Morris, John Thomson and James Nesbitt.
Cold Feet was a ratings hit for ITV during its four-and-a-half years on air between November 1998 and March 2003.
The broadcaster is hoping to air the revival series in its old Sunday-night slot to help fill the ratings void when Downton Abbey ends later this year.
The show’s emotional 2003 finale was watched by 10.7million people and showed the funeral of Helen Baxendale’s character Rachel, who was killed in a vehicle crash.
Well, we may not have to wonder much longer as ITV are reportedly in talks with the original cast with a view to bring the show back to life.
An ITV spokesperson dismissed the reports, saying: “This is speculation”.
Irish actor James Nesbitt, landed a major role in Peter Jackson’s three-part film adaptation of The Hobbit and recently starred in award-winning drama The Missing.
Helen crossed the Atlantic to appear in US sitcom Friends as Ross Geller’s British love interest and Hermione went on to star in hit BBC drama Spooks.
Cold Feet has been a hugely profitable series for ITV, having been broadcast in over 34 countries and remade in the United States and several European countries. It has also spawned merchandise including books and a board game.
A source told The Mirror: “It is all looking very positive for a Cold Feet comeback”.
If it does go ahead, the show isn’t expected to be back on our screens until autumn next year.
