Could Red Sparrow Spell A Hunger Games Reunion For Jennifer Lawrence?
According to Entertainment Weekly, this is not the first time that JLaw and Francis Lawrence have been reunited since “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay“.
While no deal has been inked *just yet*, sources say that the hope is for her to team up with Hunger Games: Mockingjay-Parts 1 and 2 director Francis Lawrence for the movie.
“The film is an adaptation of Jason Matthews” novel, which is set in modern-day Russian Federation.
The deal is yet to go through but both Lawrences are thought to have been approached for the adaptation.
According to the interview, just as she had finished the indie film “Winter’s Bone” and just starting as Katniss Everdeen in “The Hunger Games“, Lawrence wasn’t very comfortable with the sudden fame.
Published in 2013, Red Sparrow is set in contemporary Russian Federation and centers on state intelligence officer Dominika Egorova as she struggles to survive in the steely bureaucracy of post-Soviet intelligence. Egorova is to become a “Sparrow”, a trained seductress who will seduce one of America’s valuable intelligence mole in Moscow.
Still no word on a production start date for Red Sparrow, though with Jennifer Lawrence in contention, it shouldn’t be too long before the wheels get in motion on Fox’s big-screen rendition of Matthews’ spy thriller.
The likes of David Fincher and Darren Aronofsky have previously flirted with directing, but now it’s Lawrence who’s at the helm. It was reported that the screenplay for “Red Sparrow” was penned by “American Hustle” writer Eric Warren Singer. There was talk that Jennifer Lawrence was being eyed earlier this summer, when Francis Lawrence came aboard, but she might not be officially attached for some time. It will be produced by Steven Zaillian and Garrett Basch. Lawrence is also now in pre-production on the space romance drama, Passengers, in which she’ll star opposite Chris Pratt, and, as she recently revealed, is also working on a comedy movie script with Amy Schumer.
