Couple claims to have winning Powerball jackpot ticket
The Tennessee couple who bought one of three winning Powerball lottery tickets says they will continue to work despite taking a lump sum pay-out of US$528.8 million (RM2.33 billion).
They said they were yet to make plans on how to spend the money, though Mr Robinson admitted to being scared about managing his new wealth.
Her husband added, “That’s what we’ve done all our lives”.
When the “Today” show anchors said they were nervous for the Robinsons walking around NY with the ticket, Lisa Robinson said: “You can help escort us out”. Robinson, a father of two, said he bought the four tickets as he always does to represent the four members of their family, with the computer choosing the winning numbers of 04, 08, 19, 27, 34 and Powerball 10.
“I’m out here because it’s exciting to know that somebody from our little city won. ‘John, John, you’ve got to check these numbers!’ And I startled him because he was asleep on the couch”.
The couple called Tiffany back, asking why she didn’t bring over the medicine herself to which she replied she had to get ready for work.
The ticket has not yet been verified by lottery officials.
Lottery officials had not confirmed the prize claim and say they were skeptical after seeing a picture of the ticket.
David Levy, an operator at the center, told the publication that the lucky lotto victor was at work when she found out but completed her shift.
He did, four times, then thought: “Well, I’ll believe it when the news comes in on the morning and they say there’s a victor been in Munford”.
The jackpot winners overcame odds of one in 292 million.
So the California victor, and the two other winners in Florida, and Tennessee remain a mystery.
One ticket was sold at a 7-Eleven convenience store in Chino Hills, east of Los Angeles, officials said.
In some states, winners have up to one year to claim Powerball prize money.
TV news trucks line the parking lot at a Publix Super Market, Thursday, Jan. 14, 2016, in Melbourne Beach, Fla., where one of three winning tickets in the record Powerball jackpot was sold.
The three states with Powerball winners from Wednesday’s drawing – California, Florida and Tennessee – require winners to disclose their names, which is the policy of most states that play the game.
