Court faces dilemma following Planned Parenthood outburst
“Kill the babies, that’s what Planned Parenthood does”, Dear said.
Dear’s outburst took place at the start of his hearing in El Paso County court on Wednesday.
Robert Lewis Dear-the man accused of killing three and injuring nine people at a Planned Parenthood shooting in Colorado-just left many people scratching their heads in the courtroom during a hearing.
Bearded, unkempt and cuffed at the wrists and ankles, Dear repeatedly disrupted the hourlong hearing, interrupting his public defender, Daniel King, and objecting to King’s attempts to limit publicity in the case.
Dear shouted, “You’ll never know what I saw in that clinic”. “Atrocities, that’s what they want to seal”. On one outburst, a sheriff deputy grabbed Dear by the shoulder and asked him to stop.
Among the 179 criminal counts brought in the case, prosecutors charged Dear on Wednesday with first-degree murder in the deaths of three people, as well as multiple counts of attempted murder and assault.
In the affidavit, Delise is described as “unstable” and “irrational” by people who know her. Who drugged him all up.
At this point, investigators believe Dear acted alone, and they’re working to interview witnesses and anyone he may have spoken with before the attack, the official said.
“I think there’s a lot of belief that this qualifies as a form of domestic terrorism”, Dawn Laguens, Planned Parenthood’s chief experience officer, said.
The gunbattle ultimately claimed the life of one officer and injured a total of five, the highest police casualty count in a single incident in the U.S.in two years and a reflection of the danger that mass shootings pose to police.
“Seal the truth, huh?”
In a court appearance to determine formal charges, accused Planned Parenthood gunman Robert Dear reportedly announced his guilt-and strongly hinted at a motive. Then he said: “Let’s let it all come out”.
“Anti-choice organizations have created a really hostile environment where people with extreme ideologies become motivated to do harm”, said Rep. Stephanie Howse (D-Cleveland), a primary co-sponsor of HB 408.
“Judge, we can not begin to make a determination about the nature or the depth of Mr. Dear’s mental illness until we receive full disclosure”, began King, he was interrupted by Dear shouting “You’re not my lawyer!”
He went on rambling about babies, mental health and conspiracies. “Can you add that to the list?”
“Cecile, there’s a murderer who’s begun the day by confessing to the murder”, O’Donnell relayed, “and saying that ‘Planned Parenthood and my lawyer are in cahoots to shut me up'”.
Dear has lived in remote locations without electricity or running water and was known to hold survivalist ideas.
The New York Times reports Dear had a history of praising previous attacks on abortion providers, and said anti-abortion terrorists were doing “God’s work”.
