Court official: Madonna, Ritchie resolve son’s custody case
Madonna and ex-husband Guy Ritchie have settled their custody case over son Rocco, according to court records obtained by ABC News.
In March, a NY judge and a British judge both separately urged the former spouses to find an amicable resolution for Rocco’s sake. “Everybody is happy to have the litigation behind them”, Ritchie’s lawyer, Peter Bronstein, told the Daily News.
The disagreement began in December 2015 during a falling out between Rocco and his musician mother, 58, when he abandoned her tour to live with his Hollywood filmmaker father, 47, in London.
The “Material Girl” singer and the director of 2009 film “Sherlock Holmes” married in 2000.
Madonna and Guy Ritchie with there then son four-month-old Rocco.
Attorneys for Ritchie did not immediately return calls for comment and a representative for Madonna’s lawyers said they do not comment on cases involving children.
The dispute began when Rocco, 16, remained in London with his father after visiting the United Kingdom on Madonna’s world tour.
Reports of the custody battle first emerged shortly after Christmas, after Rocco chose to spend the holiday with his father, step-mother and half-siblings, rather than with his mother.
“As for the terms of the settlement … they’re confidential”, notes TMZ, “but unless things have radically changed Rocco will go back to London for school and Madonna will see her son frequently”. They have three children together. But no details of the agreement were made public.
Their legal showdown has been going on for years, with Madonna contending that Ritchie was too lenient with their son.
Madonna has also invested time into proving to Rocco that she can be a more relaxed parent.
