Courthouse Shooting in Philadelphia Suburb
The incident took place inside the Chester County Justice Center in West Chester, Pa., west of Philadelphia.
Curtis Smith, 34, entered the Chester County Courthouse around 11 a.m., dressed in all black.
A man who scaled a wall of the White House earlier this year was killed in a Pennsylvania courthouse on Tuesday after slashing a sheriff’s deputy with a knife. The deputy who shot Smith was being interviewed Tuesday afternoon.
Hogan said on his Facebook page that another deputy sheriff shot Smith, who was pronounced dead at a hospital. The unnamed deputy was taken to Paoli Hospital as well for injuries to his hand and arm and was listed in stable condition, authorities said. Sheriff’s Deputies neutralized the threat and the area is secure.
Hogan says the courthouse will be closed for the rest of the day.
According to a Daily Local News story from March 3, Smith was arrested after he allegedly climbed over a perimeter wall at the White House, according to the United States Secret Service. “Do not enter”, and “Pass holders and appointments only”.
The man apparently attacked an officer with a knife and then was shot, CNN said. He was released from custody pending a hearing March 25.
Chester County Courthouse went on lockdown for a short time Tuesday afternoon after a shooting in the lobby left at least one injured.
