Courtois confident Hiddink can lead Chelsea the way
New Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink has confirmed the reports that veteran striker Didier Drogba will be his assistant coach.
“I worked with him here before, he was the one who gave me a proper chance in this club”.
“You get close to the people you work with, and it’s sad when that changes, but we had an important game two days after and I had a responsibility to the fans and the club”.
Fabregas was booed in Saturday’s 3-1 home win over Sunderland, the Blues faithful accusing the Spain playmaker and Diego Costa of undermining Jose Mourinho and contributing to the Portuguese’s sacking.
Drogba enjoyed a successful first spell with Chelsea between 2004 and 2012, winning three Premier League titles, two League Cups, four FA Cups and the Champions League before returning to the club in 2014.
Beginning this season, Mourinho’s “favourite” players had been uncharacteristically below-par and many thought it was beyond the ordinary what was faced with Chelsea. I know he’s one of the most experienced managers in the world.
“During his career, Jose has sometimes chosen to leave a club, but only at Chelsea has the club decided that he should leave”, Mourinho’s statement read.
Courtois concluded: “We saw previous year that we have a lot of quality, we were champions because of that”.
He added: “Obviously we don’t play to lose but we are responsible as well, we have top players so we shouldn’t be 15th in the league”.
Mourinho’s second Stamford Bridge stint crashed to a halt last week, seven months after he led them to the Premier League title – but also following nine defeats in 16 league games this term.
“As far as I am concerned I am always involved in the bad periods as well as the good periods”.
“Keep promoting what we did in the last half an hour (at Chelsea), keep showing the players what they achieved in the last half hour and say “Half an hour’s all right but it’s 90 minutes you’ve got to do this for”, said Allardyce.
“However, I am sure we can all turn this season around”.
Reports suggested the 69-year-old was in England on Friday to speak with Chelsea officials in a London hotel, and his decision is expected to be announced soon.
