Cousins scores 40, Kings beat Nets 111-109
Monster games from DeMarcus Cousins and DeMarcus Cousins helped the Kings earn their second-consecutive victory on Friday night in Sacramento.
A pass from the backcourt was deflected out of bounds with 1.1 seconds left in the frontcourt, giving the Nets one last chance to either tie or win the game.
Sacramento’s bench brought in the energy, starting with McLemore who had been struggling mightily this season until tonight’s game.
Cousins was the hero for the Kings as they held on for a 111-109 win over the Brooklyn Nets. Despite an assist to turnover ratio of 16-2 in the first half, the Nets finished with eight assists to 13 turnovers in the second half. Brooklyn clawed its way back into the game by hitting several jumpers in the final minute, with Wayne Ellington and Joe Johnson both knocking down 3-pointers before they got back to within two with 1.8 seconds to go on a jumper by Bojan Bogdanovic. They quickly cut the deficit down to two with two seconds remaining.
After trailing in the first half against the Nets, Cousins put in a monster third-quarter performance, scoring 21 points on 8-of-11 shooting. By taking a short-term deal, Rondo took a chance on himself, betting that he would return to the form that made him one of the most dynamic players in the games just a few short seasons ago, and earning a high-value contract during the next offseason.
While Rondo did have an awesome game, the man they call “Boogie” had himself a phenomenal game as well. “I thought it was a game that we had control of for the majority”. “It is no secret that we are all frustrated with losing – me more than anyone”, Cousins said. He came alive against the Net, making 5 of 8 shots, including three 3-points, and getting three assists in producing his most productive game of the season.
In the Kings’ 101-92 win against the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday, Rondo recorded his first of back-to-back triples-doubles, as he scored 14 points, pulled down 11 rebounds, and dished out 15 assists. Kings backup G Seth Curry (right ankle sprain) returned to action after missing two games, but backup G Darren Collison (left hamstring strain) missed his fourth straight game….
