Covert video targets Planned Parenthood fetal-parts policy
“A well-funded group established for the goal of damaging Planned Parenthood’s mission and services has promoted a heavily edited, secretly recorded videotape that falsely portrays Planned Parenthood’s participation in tissue donation programs that support lifesaving scientific research”. However, the viral video makes it seem as if she is telling the actors – who were hired by the activist group – about the cost of fetal tissue. Transportation costs would nearly certainly not apply on a body-part basis either, especially with the wide disparities of price noted by PP’s Senior Director of Medical Services, Dr. Deborah Nucatola in the video.
While Caplan does not oppose abortion, he disagreed with Planned Parenthood’s stance on donating fetal tissue to research for similar reasons.
The video was produced by the Irvine, California-based Center for Medical Progress, which released it in collaboration with several national anti-abortion organizations that called for a congressional investigation.
But according to The Times-Picayune, “Jindal said he was ordering an investigation in part because Planned Parenthood is planning to open a clinic in New Orleans”.
Planned Parenthood Federation of America acknowledged it sometimes charges for aborted fetuses’ body parts used for research.
But the Post reports Nucatola doesn’t “explicitly” discuss the sale of organs, and that she says Planned Parenthood is “very, very sensitive” about being perceived as illegally profiting from organ sales. This latest attack on Planned Parenthood are not just about abortion, but about demonizing an organization that makes sex safer and easier, while making it possible for women to plan when they have children.
Pro-life website Lifenews reported Nucatola deleted her Twitter account shortly after the release of the video.
Nucatola is heard in the video referring to fetal hearts, lungs and livers and to efforts to retrieve these organs intact rather than crush them during an abortion procedure.
The organization added that “in some instances” costs such as those “to transport tissue to leading research centers, were reimbursed, which it said was “standard across the medical field””.
In addition to abortions, Planned Parenthood health centers across the United States provide healthcare and information regarding birth control, sexually transmitted diseases, cancer and other reproductive issues.
The video stretches for about nine minutes, largely taped inside a restaurant where Nucatola appears to be sharing a meal with Center for Medical Progress actors.
“This investigation by the Center for Medical Progress reveals the unimaginable horror that is Planned Parenthood“, Live Action’s president Lila Rose said.
“There is no financial benefit for tissue donation for either the patient or for Planned Parenthood“, he said. “We are concerned about contemporary bioethical issues that impact human dignity, and we oppose any interventions, procedures, and experiments that exploit the unequal legal status of any class of human beings”.

The Stem Express product catalog for 2015 is online, with verbiage about respect for human life. The CMP plans to publish more videos and said it will also post a “Human Capital” web series detailing Planned Parenthood’s alleged commercial exploitation of aborted fetal tissue.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation also investigated the Kansas clinic for any wrongdoing, but later concluded that it did not break any laws.
