Cowboy’s Tony Romo out for Season
He’s out for the season this time.
The Carolina Panthers are 11-0 after easing to a 33-14 Thanksgiving victory over the Dallas Cowboys, who saw quarterback Tony Romo forced off with a potentially season-ending injury.
On Romo’s previous two collarbone breaks, X-rays were able to show the fractures.
The 35-year old quarterback suffered the same injury in week two of the season against the Philadelphia Eagles, placing him on the bench for the majority of the year. He missed most of 2010 after getting hurt against the New York Giants. Some of the decisions and poor decisions that I made were just uncharacteristic and very frustrating and cost our team today.
In the long term, Romo, who is signed through 2019, should be back at full strength next season, with the injury affecting his non-throwing arm.
“It’s just a disappointing day”.
Dallas went winless in seven games after that in which Romo did not play. He snatched the pigskin at the Dallas 36 and sailed untouched into the end zone, and following a successful PAT by Graham Gano, Carolina led 7-0 with 14:01 left in the first stanza.
“We felt that the risk was worth the potential of having him be the impact he can be and he is on our team”, Jones said via ESPN. “You shouldn’t ever quit trying to do something that is extraordinary”.
“Of course, the dream was if Tony could have come in, been the catalyst, played similarly to have results that we had the week before in Miami, against a great team, a really great team – Carolina is so impressive – if we could have done that, it would have been the beginning of maybe something special”. Cassel came to the Cowboys after Romo’s initial backup Brandon Weeden failed to win a game in his replacement. Without Romo as an emotional leader, the Cowboys crumbled.
“You have to step in and try to fulfill that role”, Cassel said after leading Dallas’ only touchdown drive against the Panthers. “We’ll just have to move forward, and I know he will, too”. “They depend on me to go out there and perform at a certain level, and when I let them down, let our team down, our coaches, our fan base, everybody”. He missed the last 15 games past year with Carolina because of his domestic violence case. He also played through broken ribs and a punctured lung earlier in his career.
Luck will miss his second consecutive game with a lacerated kidney and partially torn abdominal muscle.
Coach Jason Garrett wouldn’t rule out Romo returning this season, and said he would play if he was cleared even with the Cowboys (3-8) unlikely to have a realistic shot to defend their NFC East title.
