Cowboys back McFadden breaks elbow, likely out to start camp
Dallas Cowboys running back Darren McFadden underwent surgery for a broken right elbow on Tuesday (June 14), and may miss the team’s September 11 season opener against the New York Giants.
McFadden is coming off his best season since 2010 in his first year behind the talented Dallas offensive line.
Luckily for Dallas, the team’s depth chart is not lacking at the running back position, as the Cowboys recently brought in former Washington Redskins running back Alfred Morris via free agency and used the fourth overall pick of this year’s National Football League draft to scoop up Ohio State running back Ezekiel Elliot, who is expected to see time with the first team in McFadden’s absence. And versatile back Lance Dunbar is expected to be fully recovered from last year’s major knee injury at some point in 2016.
“I don’t want to put too much of a timetable on it”, Garrett said.
Garrett said McFadden was injured at home in a Memorial Day accident but offered no additional details.
“It’s our leader in the room”, Brown said. “For a guy like that, who is our leader, a guy we look to for guidance and leadership, it’s going to be hard for these young guys”.
NOTES: LB Rolando McClain and G Ron Leary reported for the first mandatory practice of the offseason after skipping all the voluntary workouts. He played all 16 games for the second straight season in 2015 – the only two times he’s done so in his career. DE Benson Mayowa was scheduled for arthroscopic surgery on his left knee Tuesday. The team expects him to be ready for Training Camp. For the protection of AP and its licensors, content may not be copied, altered or redistributed in any form.
