Cowboys defensive end Jeremy Mincey expected to practice at camp after brief
Mincey was slated to make $1.5 million this season but based on his production in 2014, he was looking for more. The seven-year veteran’s holdout appears to be close to an end after he’s missed the Cowboys first few practices and is now facing several thousands of dollars worth of fines because of it. According to the Dallas Morning News, a source has said that Mincey will meet with Cowboys vice president Stephen Jones and head coach Jason Garrett sometime today to discuss a new two-year deal.
The Cowboys’ website says Mincey has reported to Cowboys training camp and plans to practice Sunday.
In the end, though, both sides made concessions. Signing Mincey to a two-year contract last year has proven to be a bargain for the Cowboys, and they avoided paying him an additional $500,000 last year since he barely didn’t play 70% of the team’s total snaps on defense.
Cowboys defensive finish Jeremy Mincey had a powerful stretch within the playoffs, compiling six tackles, one deal with for loss, a pressured and recovered fumble and two sacks – together with this certainly one of Aaron Rodgers.
That said, there is some optimism regarding Mincey’s chances of getting back on the field, and it all has to do with the potential for a new deal to get done. But his role is more of a question this season because the Cowboys picked defensive ends in the second round of the past two drafts and signed an established pass rusher in Greg Hardy in free agency. “We want him to be here and he can be a big part of this team”.
The problem for Jeremy Mincey is that he has extremely little leverage here. The Cowboys look like they are going to keep Mincey and that comes with Hardy serving a suspension for part of the season. “So we’ll see what he’s able to do and we’ll make the right decision for our team and for him”. Lawrence has the potential to be a future star, and the Dallas Cowboys didn’t trade up for him in 2014 so that he would be a bit player; they surely have high expectations for him. “But we’re excited to have him here at training camp”. We played hard. We played tough.
