Cowboys, Dez Bryant agree to deal before deadline
With the deal signed, Thomas has his sights set on a certain National Football League record.
A person close to the negotiations says Dez Bryant has agreed to a five-year, million contract with the Dallas Cowboys.
As reported by MSN.com, Thomas also signed a five-year $70 million deal with the Broncos, and it is the richest contract in franchise history.
The New England Patriots signed the NFL’s most accurate kicker, Stephen Gostkowski, to a four-year deal worth approximately $17.2 million, a source told ESPN.
Bryant had said he was looking for long-term financial security for his family.
The Cowboys and Bryant’s representatives had been at an impasse for months after the club slapped the franchise tag on its star wideout.
Both men got what they wanted as the franchise tag deadline approached its final hours.
“I smiled the whole way over here”. Dez Bryant was willing to skip training camp and possibly regular-season games without a long-term contract, which he reportedly got on Wednesday, July 15, 2015.
Dez Bryant #88 of the Dallas Cowboys is on the field before the start of their NFC Wild Card Playoff game against the Detroit Lions at AT&T Stadium on January 4, 2015 in Arlington, Texas.
“I do have a good relationship with Dez”.
With financial security and his mother’s pending freedom, Thomas can focus on adjusting to new coach Gary Kubiak’s offense now. “Nobody took more criticism than I did when we drafted him”.
News of the deal ends an increasingly tense stand-off between the Cowboys and Bryant, who has averaged 91 receptions, 1,312 yards and 14 touchdowns in the past three seasons. Thomas had 1,619 yards last season. He shattered his previous best of 94 catches in 2012. And both suddenly have more guaranteed money than they likely ever dreamed of, which has been known to cause problems for young players.
During his one-day minicamp visit, Bryant did not join practice but only watched from the sidelines.
“Demaryius is a special talent and an elite player who has also become a team leader during his five National Football League seasons”. With that number in mind, the Cowboys might have to throw a little more of that checkbook Dez’s way to guarantee he’s on the field for them this year.
Pierre-Paul has not yet signed his one-year franchise player offer, and might not until he is confident he can pass the team physical in the wake of his injury.
