Cowboys Fall to Jets at JerryWorld, 19-16
All the Jets can do is keep winning and hope for the best. Fitzpatrick hit receiver Kenbrell Thompkins with a 43-yard deep ball, putting the Jets in field goal range, at the Dallas 26.
Breitbart Sports’ Dan Leberfeld was on hand in the Jets locker room in AT&T Stadium after the game to record the wide receiver’s reflections on the win. And perhaps most importantly, Tebow could generate some excitement without causing any serious risk to the team’s draft status. The Jets’ offense finally found its groove. Fitzpatrick then found Quincy Enunwa, who fought for every inch of a 24-yard reception. The first was an interception when he stumbled and threw blindly to a spot where Darrelle Revis was all alone.
The New York Jets travel to face the Dallas Cowboys on Saturday Night Football, because who doesn’t want to watch football on Saturday? Do you think he ever went 536 passes without an interception in his Cowboys career?
Jerry Jones said Cowboys backup quarterback Kellen Moore may see playing time this week.
Moore finished 15 of 25 for 158 yards. The Jets drove inside the five-yard line, but Dallas got the ball back after stuffing running back Chris Ivory on fourth-and-1.
The Cowboys season basically ended when Tony Romo went down with his first extended injury, much less a second. He played in the regular season for the first time in his fourth season, throwing an interception on his second pass. But he also beat a blitz with a quick toss to All-Pro receiver Dez Bryant for a touchdown and a 10-9 lead.
Richardson and the Jets’ normally-stout run defense allowed 133 yards on the ground and 6.3 yards per carry, and a reporter asked Bowles why that happened.
The teams traded possession to start the second half, and with the Jets defense melting down in the third quarter, someone had to make a play. Decker followed with six receptions for 55 yards and one touchdown.
On the other side wasn’t Joe Namath but Ryan Fitzpatrick. Facing pressure from nickel corner Buster Skrine to his left, Cassel stumbled and threw an ill-advised pass toward the right sideline. He had one 33 yard scamper, but was seldom stopped for just a yard or two. Except for the touchdown scored by Bilal Powell, they nearly completely shut down the NY running game. Because of the missed point, it was 10-9 instead of 10-10. Cassel was 3 of 8 for 37 yards and had one pass intercepted.
Matt Cassel/Kellen Moore vs. Jets defense: The Cowboys were 1-11 on third down last week and 0-2 on fourth down.
But, as Bowles noted at halftime to CBS, the Jets continued to shoot themselves in the foot. Randy Bullock missed an extra point and a field goal. A series of runs set up Bullock’s game-deciding kick. With Decker’s score, he and Marshall have a combined 21 touchdowns for the Jets this season, which is the most by any duo in franchise history. Cornerback Dee Milliner hurt his hamstring in the first half.
