Cowboys’ Jerry Jones says Tony Romo will remain in Dallas going forward
And even more impressive is that the lone loss came in week 1 to the Giants, giving Prescott and company an eight game winning streak going into the weekend.
FRISCO, Texas (AP) – Dak Prescott’s interaction with his new backup wasn’t much different after Tony Romo’s heartfelt speech that conceded the Cowboys’ starting job to the rookie quarterback.
Jerry also talked Romo’s future, and while a lot of folks have already been measuring out Tony’s jersey with a new team, Jones says not so fast. If the Cowboys are going all-in with Prescott, as they will the rest of this season, why would Romo stay for a secondary role?
“I believe Tony will be the quarterback of a Super Bowl team”, via the team’s official website.
Romo knew the reality, but he asked the Cowboys to give him a chance to win the starting job back during practice sessions and the Cowboys said no, according to a report. You can take Jones’ comments today with a grain of salt, but the Cowboys’ ownership’s loyalty to Romo as a person is clear.
“The best thing I think for all of us here is not about one individual or anything, and I think that’s what he said about Dak – having his back and Dak doing the same”, Witten said.
As far as the KC Chiefs quarterback situation goes though, here’s how I think it should break down. He’s earned the right to be our quarterback…
In the Jason Garrett era, the starter took all of the practice snaps with the first team, save when Romo sat out of Wednesday practices in 2014 and ’15 to rest his twice surgically-repaired back.
This has been one of the most outstanding seasons in Dallas Cowboys history in recent years.
While playing with the scout team, Romo reportedly had a great week.
I don’t know if the team wrote his statement and made him read it or if he did. And given how he’s kicked the Romo contract down the road with extensions and restructuring in the past, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Cowboys simply wait and see what happens this year before making a final decision on Romo.
Prescott, a fourth-round pick, has exceeded all expectations while leading the Cowboys to an 8-1 record. “He’s getting ready to play”. And it’s not just on the field, it’s off the field, too.
Romo was out for most of the 2015 season and then got injured again during preseason this year. “What you saw the other day in my mind was him turning it on”. “Rolando is really somebody who helped us when he was here, but I really don’t want to get into when or if he might be joining us”, Jones said.
