Cowboys to add Woodson to ring of honor
Jones said the safety would be inducted November. 1 when the team hosts the Seattle Seahawks at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
Woodson, who was the No. 37 overall selection in 1992 NFL draft, played all 12 of his NFL seasons with the Cowboys.
Haley’s induction leaves Woodson as the only one of the six not in the hall.
Although most don’t often put Woodson on the same pedestal as those players, he was undoubtedly a massive part of the Cowboys’ championship success in the 1990s, and his induction into the Ring of Honor ensures that fans will never forget his impact.
“You had a lot of young guys that were fast, quick to the ball”, said Woodson, a four-time All-Pro. And it meant something.
OXNARD, Calif. – It’s easy to say now after 10 Pro Bowls and a Dallas Cowboys-record 943 career catches that everybody could see way back when that Jason Witten would become one of the best tight ends in football. He’s the 21st inductee and the first since Drew Pearson, Larry Allen and Charles Haley were enshrined in 2011. The announcement was made at the conclusion of the early walkthrough practice during team’s training camp in Oxnard. The others are former coach Tom Landry and former president and general manager Tex Schramm. He started 162 of his 178 games and had 23 interceptions, 11th in club history. The Cowboys could play him close to the line without making them excessively vulnerable to the pass because of his ability to carry a receiver out of the slot.
Woodson, a five-time Pro Bowler and the team’s all-time leading tackler, spent 13 seasons with the Cowboys beginning in 1992.
Woodson himself spoke about his accomplishments in Dallas, saying, “We climbed that mountain three times”, per Machota.
Woodson’s name is next.
