Cowboys to Sign Free Agent QB Mark Sanchez
Kubiak named 2015 seventh-round pick Trevor Siemian Denver’s starting quarterback for Week 1 of the regular season. The Eagles traded Sanchez to Broncos this offseason but Sanchez wasn’t able to secure the starting job and was immediately released on Saturday when the Denver cut the roster down to final 53-men.
The Cowboys are expected to sign the ex-Jet to be Dak Prescott’s backup on the same day he was dumped by the defending Super Bowl champion Denver Broncos.
They were reportedly close to trading him to Dallas.
Sanchez was inconsistent this preseason and cutting him now will save the Broncos $3.5 million. In the crucial third game, Trevor Siemian handled the first half and rookie Paxton Lynch was in there for the second half.
Faced with the prospect of having to start the season with rookie Dak Prescott under center, the Cowboys brought in some experience.
The Denver Broncos made a decision to release Sanchez as they set their final roster for the 2016 season but the Dallas Cowboys acted quickly to snatch up the Sanchize.
Instead, Sanchez will spend the 2016 with a completely different team and be considered a backup option in case things fail to work out with Prescott. He completed 59.6 percent of his passes for 547 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions.
Quarterback Mark Sanchez has been released by the Denver Broncos, according to a report by ESPN’s Adam Schefter. He’s thrown 86 touchdowns and 84 interceptions in 75 games. They also added veteran free agent quarterback Austin Davis. Minnesota may have been one of them but the Vikings made a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles to acquire Sam Bradford, who Sanchez backed up past year in Philadelphia.
